Colton Dixon is one of the coolest artists I think is out there right now - great sound, great look. And now he’s doing something which I, as a mom to teenagers, think makes him even cooler - he’s partnering with Focus on the Family to encourage kids to "Bring Your Bible to School" on October 6th. He wants to encourage kids not be ashamed of their faith.

Now to be completely honest, I went to a Christian school, so by default I always had a Bible with me. So I honestly had to do some soul-searching to see if my teenage self would have been brave enough to take my Bible with me if I had attended public school. I asked some friends about it, and that's when Blanca from the Morning Show told me she would take her Bible to school with her so she could read it on the Metro - to and from public school.

That got me thinking about the idea of this on a completely different level. Perhaps I lived too comfortable of a life - feeling too safe to feel the need to read my Bible anywhere but at home. So I was really excited to find out that there are a lot of young people planning to take part in this special event coming up this Thursday. Here's the idea behind Bring Your Bible to School Day, per http://www.bringyourbible.org/:

On Bring Your Bible to School Day—happening this year on October 6, 2016— students across the nation will celebrate religious freedom and share God’s love with their friends. It’s an annual event for students sponsored by Focus on the Family. The event is designed to empower you as a student to express your belief in the truth of God’s Word–and to do so in a respectful way that demonstrates the love of Christ.

Participation is voluntary and student-directed—meaning it’s completely up to students, Christian clubs and youth groups to sign up online and then lead the activities in their school.

If you're thinking about taking part in Bring Your Bible to School, I'd love to hear your experience.  Share it with me via Facebook.  Share your pics, your thoughts, your feelings. Let's encourage each other on this journey.
